A tropical, nutty, and citrusy cocktail with a rich rum base, balanced by orgeat syrup, lime juice, and orange liqueur.

Served in a double old-fashioned glass over crushed ice, garnished with a lime wedge and a mint sprig.

Variations include the Royal Mai Tai (adding pineapple juice) and the Smoked Mai Tai (using a smoky rum float).

Perfect with grilled seafood, Polynesian cuisine, and tropical fruits.

  • 4 cl Dark rum
  • 2 cl Lime juice
  • 1.5 cl Orange Liqueur
  1. Fill a shaker with ice.
  2. Add all ingredients except the dark rum.
  3. Shake well and strain into a glass filled with crushed ice.
  4. Float the dark rum on top.
  5. Garnish with a lime wedge and mint sprig.
